1. Grease Your Trailer Hubs

Your trailer hubs are easy to forget about until there’s a problem. Keeping them properly greased helps protect the bearings and keeps everything rolling smoothly.

Before a long trip, take a few minutes to check your hubs and make sure they have enough grease. It’s a small job that can save you from dealing with a major trailer problem on the side of the road.

2. Check Your Prop for Fishing Line

Fishing line wrapped around your prop shaft can cause more damage than you might think. Even a small amount of line can work its way into the prop seal and eventually lead to water getting into the lower unit.

Every so often, especially after fishing around docks, grass, or heavy cover, pull your prop and check for wrapped-up line. It only takes a few minutes and can potentially save you from an expensive repair.

3. Grease Your Jack Plate

Your jack plate takes a lot of abuse throughout the fishing season. Keeping the moving parts properly greased helps everything move smoothly and prevents unnecessary wear.

Make it part of your regular maintenance routine, especially if you’re constantly adjusting your jack plate throughout the day.

4. Check Your Batteries and Connections
